In our house, up until now, the big jobs, making and renovating have been pretty much carried out by Mr M.
That is until now.
Our big boy is following in his father's footsteps and proving to be a talented handyteen.
Over the recent school holidays he made this portable chicken coup from old pallets.
Master B. was called in to help.
His job was to sit on the lengths of timber to hold them down whilst Big boy sawed them to length.
Look away mother!
The chooks just go in it for a few hours and we have had it where we can see it.
A certain fluffy Lulu dog was fascinated by the chooks and frustrated by the wire.
Good job! Lulu does look like she is thinking very naughty thoughts. Thank goodness for the chicken wire!
ReplyDeleteYes she was licking her chops bigtime!
DeleteHi Deb
ReplyDeleteOh my - I am massive chook envy.
We want to have some chickens (hens) so badly but, alas no room spare.
I will have to live vicariously through your chickens :)
have a great day lovely
x Loulou
Loulou, I just can't wait for some eggs. Some nice eggs with yellow yolks.
DeleteLulu - where's the chickens? Oh, no I'm not suppose to say chase the birdies am I? Lucky cheeky Gus isn't there. He'd find a way through the wire!
ReplyDeleteI think Lulu would try and dig under if we left the chooks with her without us being around. For now we only put them in when we are pottering around the house.
DeleteHi mum Miss B here
ReplyDeleteThe new chicken coup is not just dog prof but bird proof! I was watching it this morning and the birds couldn't get in.
Good observation young lady.xxxx
DeleteWow - what a great chook house. Got to love it when boys are making things instead of killing things on a screen.
ReplyDeleteIn this case it was making things inbetween killing things on the screen!
DeleteGreat job on the chicken coop! and a very clever design. I remember real eggs - they are so delicious. I am a bit jealous.
ReplyDeleteTHanks, I will be so excited when that first egg does appear.
DeleteOh fantastic!! Love that Mr Moerk does the handiwork, as my husband is either away or the biggest procrastinator with such jobs (namely: 'jobs Jennie wants done') so i do them myself, including constructing all flat pack items & chicken related canopies. That is some fine work Moerk Boy, congratulations, such a sturdy job & one of those handy coops you can move around the yard & never ruin the garden. Our German Shepherd is still very keen on mixing with the hens but we can't trust him as he chases birds ALL DAY & is so overbearing. I can see bantam chicks under his paws, purely by accident. Loving your Silky with that hair do!! Currently we're running with 14 chickens & 3 ducks, we'd need a HUGE triangle frame, instead they get the whole side passage & a cosy coop they all nest in together. We just spent 3 days away & came home to a very keen chick sitting on 5 eggs, the children are certain she's a rooster in the making, she's certainly faking it well!! I'm so impressed the hens are laying anything in our Canberra cold nights -5C & all, they do tend to lay during the afternoon though, who cares, eggs are eggs!! Love Posie
ReplyDeletePS just went back to save all the collage images as extra larger for your perusal. Enjoy, the ducks are so cute, massive now, they grow so fast, highly recommend them!! Love Posie
ReplyDeleteThanks Posie, I shall pop back and visit your ducks. Our chickens live in a big coup at the bottom of the garden but we think the silkies are so pretty we like to see more of them, hence the portable coup. It won't be long and your son will be out there whipping up projects for you. Deb
ReplyDeleteTotally off topic...just read your comment on Blighty's blog. What's that saying...Rolling about falling over laughing ?
ReplyDeleteYeah well that's me after reading that!
Oh very nice cook pen and your teen should be very happy with his effort.
xx
