Facebook,, What have I done?

In a spur of the moment, not so terribly thought our moment I rashly joined Lets go Moerkabout up to Facebook.

I have resisted it for ages, have not really wanted to have another thing to do that takes me away from the kids, but hey, on the spur, I did it anyway.

What I discovered was, that it is a whole new world.

It seems so different from Blogland.  I mean, within 20 mins of joining I had 12 friends. Amazing.

It seems so instant, a little like twitter.

The only problem is I have no idea what I am doing or what the etiquette is.

So, I need your help.

Any tips or tricks or just suggestions, I am all ears.

One thing I would like to know is how to get a big picture at the top of my page?

I would also like to know, do I just click away on all the friend suggestions whether I have any idea of people or not? How does that whole bit work.

And one last thing, Should I be clicking on peoples pages and liking them? Why don't I have a like button on mine. Sorry that was two things.

Thanks to all who have welcomed me to facebook mwahhhh.

  1. Hi Deb, firstly welcome to FB. I am relatively new to using FB on a regular basis and I still remember the chaos I felt the first week I launched the store and my FB page. From what I can gather you have created a personal profile for Let's go Moerkabout. You can also create a Face Book page that will be linked to your profile. The Page is where people will like you, the profile is where you have friends. Does that make sense? If you have any questions feel free to email me and I will try to help. xx

    1. Clear as mud Nellie. I can see I need to spend a bit more time investigating. I know I can like your page, cause I have already done so. I knew I should have waited until the school holidays when I had more time. Thank you, I might email you when I have some more questions.

  2. You make me giggle, Deb! I am one of those friends. Don't be scared. I only have my personal page. I have one lined up for my blog but am debating whether I could run that as well. The dilemmas! J x

    1. Hi Jane, I was so excited when you popped up on my page. If you could pop back and follow the link to my new Lets go Moerkabout page, that is where I will be hanging out.

  3. Hi Deb,
There's so much to learn with Facebook and I'm no expert but I'll share what I know.
I had a look for you on FB and I see that you have a personal account rather than a page. That will explain why you don't have a 'like' option. I have a personal account that is listed with my name and then a page that is listed as my blog name - a welsh girl. I keep my personal one just for people that I know (mainly old friends from home)and the security settings on that are private unless you are a 'friend'. My blog page is the opposite and completely open.
I seem to remember that I used my personal login and then clicked on create a page in order to set one up for my blog.

The big picture is called your cover photo and you have to have a timeline to create one. This is an option within facebook. You should see a prompt asking you if you want to switch to timeline.

I hope that this helps a bit. Get in touch if you want me to be more specific or if you have any other questions. I have set up a link on my blog to my FB page and it's pretty easy to do if you want me to guide you through it.
    Have fun!
    Beth

    1. Thanks Beth, I now have another page for my blog and when I can switch over my friends I will then use the old one as you do for family.

  4. I have just joined too!! I caught up with Bianca last week and she said it is so easy, so away I went!! I've just done a personal account and intend to start a page for my blog stuff. I haven't got around to that yet!! I'm still figuring it out too and yep...another time waster!!

    1. If only I had chatted to people beforehand then launched into it. Nevermind, Jacquie has been fabulous and helped to set me on the right path.

  5. Oh if only I had chatted to you all before I started I wouldn't be in the absolute mess I am in now!!!!!!!!
I have a personal account for family and one for the blog with some crossovers it tends to get very confusing I wish I had known about the page bit. I think I probably need to cancel everything and start again except I did that with networked blogs and lost al my followers!! Anyway we are friends now and I am looking forward to following along and perhaps we can learn together!! J

  7. Deb,

Sounds like it's a whole new world, one I haven't tripped into yet (the page thing). I do have a personal FB happening.

Sometimes the mind boggles at just how many social media platforms there are - talk about multi tasking.

    Cheers,
    Lou

    1. At least having a personal FB page you have a bit of an idea what you are doing. My advice, wait on the blog one.

  8. Hi Deb :) I'm new to Facebook too and I agree that it its really confusing! I friended you on my personal account last weekend but like most of the other girls who have commented, most of the action happens on my FB page for the blog.
    Have a good day!

  10. Ha, lol. I will have to finish working out the blog fb page and then get you all over there. I need to have some uninterrupted time with the computer to work it all out.
