Now to tell you about Coober Pedy.
Day one in Coober Pedy
Have you seen the Cars movie? Well all I could think about when we drove into Coober Pedy was Radiator Springs. Any second I expected Mater to cruise by and chuckle at us.
We stayed at an under ground campsite in a room we dubbed "the cell". Apart from being very dusty and noisy it was so warm and really quite amazing. Like "proper tourists" we did a mine tour and had a go with the diving rods to find opal. Great fun.
Now where is that motel?
Miss B in 'the cell"
No that is not carpet, it's gravel and it is very noisy and crunchy!
Bright eyed and bushy tailed we adventured out to see the sights of Coober Pedy.
First stop, the famous dog fence.
Next stop, the Moon Plains, apparently where part of Mad Max was filmed.
At this point Tina Turner was singing the "we don't need another hero, beyond the thunderdome" song on a loop in my head.
What an incredible place.
We spent the afternoon "noodling" which is looking for opal in the heaps left from the mining equipment. Unfortunately we didn't strike it lucky!
