On ya bike!

via flickr

For no particulary good reason recently I decided to start riding my bike again.
And,
I have to say.
It was not pleasant.
It was downright uncomfortable.

I had visions of myself riding around stylishly.

Saving petrol, and indeed the planet with my pedalling legs.

Naturally, my mind turned to accessories.
A girl needs a basket. For her bag, first aide kit of course the shopping.

I had one like this in primary school.

Now, I rather fancy one of these.
Very practical and it looks good.

The reality is, I will probably end up with one of these from KMart!

I complained to Mr M about the discomfort. Hoping he would suggest a new bike.
Ever practical, he suggested I get a new seat.
Who would have thought!

I went to the bike shop and the lady showed me a gel padded, wide seat.
Perfect for the mature bottom!
She advised against the lycra gel padded cover, over the old seat.
I didn't know where to look when she explained they caused slippage and friction!

Now I could whip up one of these.

But my eyes are watering contemplating this!

I am planning to ride to work tomorrow.
I will have to contend with "helmet hair" for the day.
But, I am thinking of my butt and thighs.
Wish me luck!

  1. Oh dear, it's funny how things change so much from when we were kids. It was so easy back then! It's like horseriding - I grew up on horses and was never saddlesore but now I walk near a hose and my butt hurts at the thought of it. Same with bikes.
I don't mind the Kmart basket and definately like the sound of a gel padded seat. I like the sound of a motor even more!
    Have fun!

  2. Good luck Deb! I have to agree with you... why wasn't this a problem when we were kids? I am not going near the comments by the shop lady so perhaps that lovely colourful crochet number might be the go? Have fun! ;-)

  3. Heehee you're funny. I'm sure you will be fine and you will look so fantastic and toned the helmet hair won't be what's getting everyone's attention!!

  4. Oh good luck. I often fantasise about riding a bike, but that's where it starts and ends. I could be convinced though after seeing the crochet seat cover :)

  6. hehe 'slippage and friction'... we don't want that!!!

My bike is still in my brother's garage since I last moved... so much for good intentions.... but I know what you mean... seems we need a soft ride when we get 'more mature' haha

Have a lovely week.. ciao xxx Julie

  7. What more can I say? It's a lovely post Deb!!!
I wish I have a bike again... but the city where I live in Brazil is completely made of hills in almost all streets! It's crazy thinking cycling here!!! But if I had one, I'd like to use these kute baskets!

  9. I had the same problem when we got bikes back in our summer; I tried leggings under jeans and that helped a bit but the way forward may be the dreaded cycle shorts with reinforced bits - i need reinforced bits!! xx
