String ball tutorial.

The easiest little balls to make.

Just blow up some balloons. Make sure they are the round ones.

Spray on a little oil to stop the string sticking too much.

Then choose your favourite string or twine.

Wind some off the ball and soak it in some wallpaper paste.
You may need to wear gloves.
I actually used celmix which is similar to wall paper paste, it's a non toxic children's paste used in kindergarten.

Tie your string to the knot on the balloon to secure it.

Wind away.

Wind as much or as little string as you like.
The more string, the more dense the ball will be.
Don't worry if you run out of string. I didn't bother joining more I just started with a fresh string and it glued itself in place.

Leave to dry.
This is the hard part. I am very impatient and ended up putting them by the fire to dry faster.

When the string is dry. Cut the knot to free the string. Poke them with a sharp implement to pop the balloon and pull it out.

Pop them in a bowl and admire!

If you do have a go, I would love to hear how you got on.

We love string!

"Can I have some string Mum?" is a constant cry in our house. We love our string here. The usual reply is "You can have some out of the drawer, but not from the bowl please".

all photos by me

I just love its colour and texture and all round usefulness.

Stay tuned for the easy peasy, slightly slimey, string ball tutorial.

Oh my, what have I got myself into?

We are very honored to be hosting a very famous little cupcake here in country Victoria in the near future.

Me and my big mouth entered the travelling cupcake challenge hosted by the lovely Kerry from A Tranquil Townhouse.  The winner takes custody of the little cupcake (Cuppie)  for a short period of time and shows her a good time. I then post some pics of her antics and you guys get to think up a little saying for the chance to be the next host.

She is quite well travelled and has made some very fine connections. She has graced the cover of Cleo Magazine, been to Floriade in Canberra and is on a first names basis with Buffy the Vampire Slayer. (Kerry's part evil but blog famous cat). Cuppie is the creation of Diana from One Crafty Fox who sent this little cupcake on its journey from Canada around the world in 12 months. For more info on the original challenge see here.

I can't help wishing Cuppie had been with us when we went to Uluru and other such famous places. Alas, she will have to settle for Aussie country hospitality.

Now I am off to dust off my balls of string in preparation for the much anticipated string ball tutorial!

Hi, I'm back and raring to blog!

Hi there and thank you to all the lovely people who welcomed us home.

I must say it's been a torrid time since we came home. A bout of food poisoning a fractured arm, a chest infection and a nasty coughing bug have been plaguing us.
At least now the sun is shining and the temperature has warmed up. I am sure we will all start to feel healthy again.

I have been absent for a while tossing around whether or not to change the blog name etc now we are no longer travelling. For now I have kept it but I might change it later.

I have been taking heaps of photos around the place and the family all think I am quite demented setting up little vignettes and photographing them. It's all in good fun I say and it keeps me off the streets and out of the shops:).

I have been having a ball with tissue paper and string, so stay tuned for my string ball tutorial.

Home again, home again jiggitty jig.

These feet have had a wonderful time.

They started out all wide eyed and bushy tailed. Clean and very bright.

They learnt to blend in with the surroundings.
(By the way these ECCO shoes were fabulous, soooo comfortable)

They lounged like a lizard on some spectacular rocks.

Paddled and splashed in magnificent waters.

And amazing shelly beaches.

But, all good things must come to an end.
Our journey has ended.
And do you know what?

It's great to be home.

Thanks to each and every one who encouraged us along the way by reading and commenting we appreciated you all.
