Kitchen Chairs, before and afters

Ok, this post has been a long time coming because these darn chairs were tricky to photograph!

Our family room has lots of natural light which was proving to be awkward to say the least.

Any who, these rather orange chairs were giving me the pip and I started looking for new ones last time we were in Melbourne.
Mr tightarse M suggested instead of buying some new ones, that I just paint the old ones and see how they go.

Seeing as we were in the middle of winter, I totally took over the family room and painted away in the middle of the chaos.

I have to say I am thrilled with the result.

We used an aqua enamel paint in 1/4 strength hog bristle.

We let the paint cure for 5 days and it seems really hardy so far.

Roll on spring, I am itching to paint some outdoor furniture now.

  1. Oh so much better Deb!! No more orange!
You can seal them with a water based polyurethane (water based shouldn't go yellow with age, but you'd need to research) for extra protection. Its a good idea for something that gets used every day.

Love the centre piece too ;-)

  3. I love the look you've given your 'orange' chairs. Are they the same colour as your kitchen cabinet behind? I have an 'orange' sideboard that I have hated the colour of since it was delivered. I think it would definitely improve with this kind of painted treatment!

    1. Yes Carol, I have tried to match them to the laminate behind. If only I could get rid of the orange of the cork floor.

  7. They look great. If you used aqua enamel you shouldn't need to varnish them. I've got a lot of white painted furniture in aqua enamel and it's held up pretty well.
