Farewell floral - part two. The Couch.

If having floral axminster carpet wasn't enough, our over the road neighbours had to have a garage sale not long after we moved into this house many years ago. Being good neighbours we trotted over the road and came home with a huge deco floral club lounge suite. In their house it looked great. Their house was similiar to ours, had lots on antiques and was the height of fashion in the early 90's.
As soon as we got in our front door we realised the folly of our purchase, a floral couch on floral carpet arrgh. Undeterred we bought a plain square of carpet and blended the whole thing together. This worked very well for many years. It is amazing what a pattern will hide. Lots of our friends had the same pattern, these couches seem to live forever.

As you can see it has "had it". We debated slipcovering, recovering etc. In the end we just decided it had to go. So it's gone and now we have moved a couch from the family room to the Lounge (these pictures were taken in the dining room).
For now I have put it in the too hard basket and will make do with the bean bags for the kids in the family room and buy a new one after the "big trip".

Here is some ideas of what I am looking for.

Images - Pottery Barn

Something light, classic and neutral so I can change the cushions at a whim. The only debate is that we are rather fond of a cuppa and some choccy at night when the kids are tucked up in bed. It will need to be washable as my hand eye coordination isn't always that brilliant when chocolate is involved.

It's Friday again so
Have a good weekend.

White Wednesday - A touch of light reading.

White Wednesday.......

If I had the time to colour code my bookshelves, they could look like this. As for the white bed cover and white canvas.....consider it done!

Image - mine

I fear I will never win the battle to paint the woodwork or walls white, so white accessories it has to be.
Never mind, I have a cunning plan....shhh don't tell Mr M.

We've bean gardening!

Happy Monday - I know that title is terrible but today, it's all about beans.

Mr M is an obsessed avid vege grower and he planted some beans earlier in the season on a teepee made from eucalyptus sticks gathered from over the road.

I picked some last night to go with our roast........................

Aren't these babies gorgeous! They smell divine and crunch like crazy.

After 10 years of drought, our green front lawn is my favorite backdrop.

Yum....

Jack would have been proud of this beanstalk!

Now, to have a yummy roast, you need potato, so this cheeky lady was unearthed....

The kids called her "Betty Bottom".

Have a happy day!

Tagged! 6th Photo

The lovely Kerry from A Tranquil Townhouse has tagged me to play the 6th photo game. So here it is from my very second post way back in March. March, has it only been March, it feels like longer.

This trust me,it is not a good photo. Terrible light, bad angle of Master B.  Not to mention, he hates having his photo taken when asleep. Especially after I videoed him snoring one night. Poor kid is scarred for life!!

We had been for a day trip to a lovely garden and homestead on the Glenelg River. The kids swam and kayaked and were carted around the farm in the back of an old ute looking at old shearers quarters, cook houses etc. It was a great day, but a little to much for our little man.

It's a pity, this wasn't the 6th photo.

These are the old steps up to the main house. There is a lovely old verandah overlooking the lawns that stretch down to the river. I bet those old steps and posts have some interesting stories to tell.

O.K. that's all from me. I am off to the big smoke for some training so I will have to tag some other bloggers at a later date.

White Wednesday.

Our figs were very small this year due to lack of water. But... who knows? We have had a promising start to the year with some very lovely rain.
The Mulberry is dropping it's leaves now, and soon the fig will follow.

Good Monday Morning!

Good morning. Hope you had a fabulous weekend.

I just thought I'd share some of the last of the Autumn Roses. If you are at home, perhaps it's time for a cup of tea. If you are sneaking a peek at work, perhaps it's time for a cup of tea before you get back to work.

The roses are "peace" roses and they smell divine, not too heady, just like the way I like roses to smell.

Farewell floral - part one.

When we moved into this house some 17 cough, cough years ago. It had been owned by one family since it was built in the 1930's.

They had made a few changes, by updating the bathroom ie painting the walls cream to coordinate with the apple green bath and pedestal, putting a fridge in the passage wall. Yes in the passage wall. So the front faced the kitchen and the back cunningly disquised as a bookshelf was in the lounge.

There was also a stunning kitchen makeover in apricot and featured ship tiles. Yes I said ship, not a spelling error! But, there were lots of lovely period details that we liked. Timber pannelling in the dining room, fretwork in the passage, picture rails and a lovely servery from the kitchen to the dining.

The house also had floral axminster carpet. Despite not having any pile left, and being very ahem floral, this carpet served us very well. 3 babies were toilet trained without any evidence left behind, one fluffy puppy ditto. Parties, red wine, tea coffee, were never a drama at our house.

Late last year when the carpet resembled hessian, we said farewell and replaced her with a neutral browny, self patterned wool carpet. As much as we loved the old girl, the new spongy boy looks clean, uncluttered and is oh so soft underfoot.

We think that the ghost of Mrs W. the previous owner, who often lurks, very kindly and lovingly in the kitchen and hallway, approves the changes.

This really doesn't do it justice, but you do get the general idea.

Blue plus white equals quilt.

I really love white and blue and quilts. So imagine my delight when they come together.

I also like blue and white and pretty china, so now I am very happy.

I also like nice wooden shelving...

And when the nice wooden shelving has blue and white things on it....
I am very happy indeed!
Hope you are happy too, have a happy day.

Welcome - Hallway entrance ideas

I am a little obsessed about our front hallway.
Handy Mr M. put up this birdie coat rack last weekend and I have been fiddling around putting all sorts of bits and pieces on it. Today I wondered if I needed to paint it white!
We also have an old marble top wash stand with some tiles that needs a "before" and "after" type rennovation.

The new birdie rack.

I love this idea with initials for each family member.

(seeing all these bags here I feel another sewing project coming on)

I have noticed that the rack seems to acquire a couple more items everyday. I hope it's screwed in well. Do you have a coat rack? How do control the volume?

Now I'm off to contemplate what I can do with the washstand!!!!

Gorgeous blog - great giveaway, awesome eye candy

There are so many fabulous blogs out there....

I stumbled upon this one and it blew me away (right after clicking the translation button, my Norwegian is not that good;)
It is also a good opportunity for me to practice the art of linking.

Let me know what you think. I just love the textures and colours of her work.

The giveaway is at modern country
I know what you might be thinking.... If this is yet another lovely blog, there goes another 1/2 hour, where will it all end? Will we be found, little old decayed ladies, finger bones stuck to the keyboards, years from now?

Firepit - April weather is getting chilly.

Image - Ideal home Magazine

Now that the nights are getting chillier and the nights drawing in earlier it's time to light the little fire pit.
Our family loves to poke around the flames. Part of the attraction is just all of us being together.
We have been wondering what to do with ours, very similar to this one but made of stainless steel instead of the tiles. I kind of like how this one is sunk into the decking. At this we don't have any decking. But, we do have plenty of lovely red brick paving. I'll think on it for a bit and see what we can come up with.

Just hanging around - pinboards.

This post was inspired by the lovely Olivia at Our Windy Spot, who showed some delightful pinboards in a recent post.

It got me thinking about all the pinboards we have in our home.

Miss B's sweet wire girl. Would you believe I picked this up in the local hardware store!

This lovely vintage frame was found tucked away in a Tasmainian antique store.

Master B has a canvas with string and pegs for his awards and special bits and pieces.

He also has one of these (I couldn't resist).

Our more serious big boy likes his neat and orderly!

And I like mine soft and pretty!
If I can work out how to do it I may add a tutorial on how to make the above pinboard.

Have a good weekend.

Under the old gum tree.

This here big ol gum tree.

Set here in the Aussie bush.

Is the scene of many a bbq.

Chopping, cutting and playing.
Reading and chatting.
And cups of tea.

That's right, while Mr M slaved away chopping wood for the winter. The kids and I played and cooked sausages and sat in the sun. Drinking billie tea and reading some of our favourite mags.
Thanks to our friends J & J, and Rosie the sheep dog.
